2025 February newsletter

Hope you’re all having a frosty and great winter – we definitely are at NitroVolt. It’s been a productive month, despite the cold weather and snow.

We finally commissioned our new pressurized system: Mitra. This system will enable us to synthesize kg/day amounts of ammonia, at a maximum operating pressure of 20 bar. Following the commissioning of this system, we have submitted the 10-celll flow-cell stack for production – this is the world’s largest electrochemical stack for ammonia synthesis and will be able to produce in +kg/day amounts of ammonia. Truly a step-change for NitroVolt going from just gram production to now kg. Stay tuned as we expect to operate this system in spring 2025.

We have also filmed a new NitroVideo at our new NitroLabs and NitroOffices to show off the fantastic labs and team (link). Leaving the university last summer and building the NitroLabs was the big step up for 2024, enabling us to know produce kg/day ammonia. We have a state-of-the-art lab for synthesizing and measuring ammonia, and are setting up collaborations with Danish and international universities and research centers to further gain access to advanced characterization techniques for improved performance and longevity of the process.

Following the seed round and the big GUDP grant, we are also hiring 5 new members to expand the NitroTeam: an Electrochemist, an Electrochemical Engineer, a Chemical Process Engineer, an Industrial Engineer, and a Chief Commercial Officer. Speaking of the NitroTeam, we are super excited to welcome four brilliant students from DTU this semester. Nickolaus, Vincent, Andreas, and Jonas are working with us on advanced R&D topics spanning from electrochemical stack characterization to electrodes degradation studies, as well as electrochemical data analysis.
